Andrew Bassey is a Manchester born professional bassoonist, multi-instrumentalist, conductor and teacher who studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. His passion for music and instruments began in a brass band at age six. He took up the bassoon at 16, and entered the RNCM at 18.
Since leaving college Andrew free-lanced with most Northern professional orchestras. From 1994 -1997 Andrew was full time principal bassoon with two South African Orchestras.
Returning to England, Andrew worked for Northamptonshire Music Service, where he was recognised as an outstanding teacher, producing over 800 successful ABRSM exam results (in 8 years), including a dipABRSM flute for a 16-year-old girl.
Andrew started Northamptonshire Orchestral Winds (NOW) in 2005, which soon became a community wind band college. His first advanced wind orchestra produced a C.D. in 2006; and in 2008 NOW performed in Carnegie Hall, New York.
Andrew hopes to help build the CYSO and encourage players of non-orchestral instruments to try orchestral ones and some to switch to less popular instruments. Andrew is available for lessons in Chester and Nantwich. www.worlestonmusicschool.co.uk
